Madagascar’s Exquisite Petrified Wood Creations
Madagascar is renowned for its diverse and stunning petrified wood products. The pieces from this region  include many shapes and sizes from XXXL slices to gallets, palm stones, pyramids, and prisms. While slicing is the primary transformation method, only a small fraction of the material is crafted into other forms.
Petrified wood, known for its density and exceptional hardness, presents a unique challenge in crafting. The captivating range of wood colors and intricate growth ring patterns are skillfully revealed through expert craftsmanship, enhancing the natural allure of each piece.
Much of the Madagascar region’s petrified wood dates back to the Triassic period and is botanically associated with the genus Podocarpus. The petrification process, where organic material is replaced by minerals and the original pore spaces are filled, perfectly exemplifies the transformation of organic material into a fossil.
