Petrified Wood / Ammonites
Petrified Wood is a fossil that forms when organic components of a woody plant material are gradually replace by minerals via a process called permineralization. The resulting structure may closely mimic the shape and internal features of the original woody item such as a tree, effectively preserving its essence in stone. This process can take millions of years to complete.
Ammonites are a distinctive class of extinct invertebrates. They existed millions of years ago and have unique, chambered shell shapes. Ammonite fossils are found all over the world and are related to the current day octopus and squid.
